1. A Meal Service

Hello Fresh is my go-to. All the ingredients in one bag, plus a recipe to follow.

No need to search in your cupboards and find you’re missing one key ingredient halfway through cooking. Just follow the recipe with the ingredients provided. It’ll bring joy back into cooking especially when you’re in a rut.

2. Grocery Delivery (or pick up)

Meal services are great but you’ll still need some essentials. So if you’re not in a food rut or just need some extra essentials - grocery pick up (or even better, delivery) is for you! You’ll save money because you know exactly how much is in your cart while you shop and it’s so much easier to stick to a list than when you’re in the store. Bonus: fewer toddler tantrums!

Rumour has it, grocery pick-up also gets the best pick of produce. But if for some reason, you don’t get quality produce, you can easily request a refund for that item - I have never had a request denied.

Essential Mom Hacks - Coffee Drive Thru

3. Coffee Drive Thru

Treat yo self, mama! One day a week, we have a morning car nap so I can get out and enjoy a coffee. It’s not quite the pre-baby cafe vibes but it sure is a luxury to drink a HOT coffee while reading - even if it’s in my car.

4. Lovevery

Toys designed specifically for your child’s development delivered at just the right time. These are the only toys you need and you’ll save so much time and research.

Is this necessary to be a good mom? Of course not! Your child needs love and attention. Is it expensive? Yes. But if you’re spending lots of time or worry researching what your kid should be playing with - this is worth the money in time-saving alone.

Plus, the toys are incredibly well made and so fun.

5. Airpods Pro

Airpods Pro are a game changer for new parents. I’m sure there are other headphone options, but I LOVE mine and highly recommend these.

The transparency mode is amazing for taking walks! You can still hear cars and conversation so safety isn’t compromised while you’re out walking. But the active noise cancellation is a GAME CHANGER when your baby needs settling.

Babies co-regulate with their caregiver so if you’re calm, they can calm. But if you’re stressed or overwhelmed by their crying, your baby will pick up on that too. It’s so hard to settle a baby when you’re stressed.

I get overwhelmed by crying and taking a moment to breathe and using the active noise cancelling on my airpods while listening to something calming, helps me stay calm so H can co-regulate.

6. Automatic Coffee Maker

I love coffee. I love everything about it - the smell, making it, drinking it, the experience of holding a mug of coffee in my hands… I prefer it hot, but mama life means it’s sometimes cold (or repeatedly reheated).

I loved making my pour over in the morning pre-baby. But as you know, mornings are a bit hectic now. Save yourself some time and thought and get it ready the night before with a solid coffee maker with an automatic timer.

I love this one. Are there other options? Oh yes. But the Breville Precision Brewer is the closest I could find to a Moccamaster — AND it has a timer! I love GOOD coffee and this makes it for me, ready when I wake up!

7. Date Night at Home

Date nights are essential when you have kids. So much changes in your relationship when you go from being “partners in crime” to “partners in parenting” and intentional time with your partner is key.

We don’t live near family so for us, finding a babysitter is hard and reserved for really special occasions. Enter: Date night at home. After H goes to sleep, at least once a week we will have date night.

Here are our top 15 Date Night at Home ideas

Is date night at home the same as going out to dinner and a movie? No. But it is intentional time spent  together to enjoy each other’s company and that is what date night is all about.

8. Mutu

About 4 months postpartum, at 4am, I was up feeding H and I remember thinking my body was broken. My body and back were so sore and I didn’t think I’d ever feel normal again.

Pregnancy was so hard! All my nutrient stores were gone and I didn’t know where to start to feel better, let alone get fit.

I was exhausted and needed someone to tell me what to do. But I couldn’t afford a personal trainer and needed something designed for postpartum moms. Enter Mutu!

I joined the Mutu program on a desperate whim and it turned out to be amazing.

The first 2 weeks are essentially pelvic floor rehab for 10 mins a day plus a walk. It can feel a bit slow but once Intensive 1 starts in week 3, you’ll be so glad you did the first two weeks of foundation.

Mutu will meet you right where you’re at postpartum and help you get where you want to go - while celebrating all your wonderful body has accomplished bringing life into this world.

9. Baby Sleep Coach

You don’t have to live with your baby waking every 2 hours at night.

You don’t have to suffer through and you don't have to leave your baby to cry. There is a happy medium between ‘wait it out’ and ‘sleep training’. I am a certified holistic baby sleep coach and I’m here to support you. If you have a baby between 6 months to 3 years old, and you’re ready to get your life back and wake rested in the morning... I have a range of packages with follow-up support.

I’ll never recommend that you leave your baby to cry alone. This is genuinely gentle sleep support from a certified holistic sleep coach.

Essential Mom Hacks - Morning Routine

10. Get Up BEFORE Your Baby

This one can be hard, but it makes all the difference for me. If I get up when H wakes, I feel like I’m playing catch up all day. When I get up before H, I can get ready for the day in peace and even have a hot coffee and time to journal and start the day slowly.

I have found so much joy and peace in a good morning routine. Getting up before H grounds me and gets me ready for what will inevitably be a big day chasing after a growing boy.

Getting up early takes intention. Sometimes I’m tempted to stay in bed and scroll instagram - but when I do, it’s absolutely wasted time and I don’t get the benefits of waking up before H.

11. Prepare for the Next Day

Prepare for your day the night before. Set your coffee on to brew before you wake up. Clean your kitchen (AND put away the dishes) so you can wake up to a nice clean house. If you leave home for work, get lunch ready the night before. Your future self will thank you!

Mornings can be hectic and anything you can do to prepare will take pressure off.

12. A Kindle

Having a Kindle Paperwhite meant that I actually read in my baby’s first year of life! I read a whole book in a week just reading at night when I was waiting for H to be asleep enough to put him back down in his crib.

The backlight is adjustable and meant I could read (one-handed!) without turning on a light – a game changer for moms! It’s worth the investment. It will last you long after your baby season and into your chauffeur days.

Bonus: Get Outside

Outside is magic! Your baby (and you!) can get some vitamin D, sunlight helps regulate your baby’s circadian rhythm, you can meet mom friends or have some introvert-time listening to music… the list goes on.

The park is your friend! Your baby will love it and so will you. If your baby is little, getting outside might just be a walk around the neighborhood but you will feel so much better afterward (and your baby will love it too!)

What about you? Teach me your ways! What’s your best #momhack?
